ROCKINGHAM - Mrs. Willie Smith Dawkins, 97, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Pruitt Health. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at McDonald Baptist Church with Rev. Alex Perakis, Rev. Ernie Walters and Rev. Larry Frye officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Watson King Funeral Home and other times at the Frye home, 1425 N US 1 HWY.. Willie was born November 30, 1918 in Richmond County, NC a daughter of the late Albert Lee Smith and the late Janie Gibson Smith. She was retired from J.P. Stevens. She was a faithful member of McDonald Baptist Church, where she had served as teacher for the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and visited the home bound church ladies. Willie remained very active and at the age of 90 she was still raking leaves, walking daily and mowing her own grass. She enjoyed hiking with her grandchildren in the mountains, puzzles, family get togethers and reading her Bible. Surviving are her daughters, Linda (Bobby) Caulder and Janie Frye both of Rockingham; her grandchildren, Pam Lippincott of Pinehurst, Rev. Larry (Glori) Frye of Rockingham, Corey (Michelle) Frye of Fuquay Varina and Renee (A.J.) Davis of Pickens, SC; her great-grandchildren, Michael Lippincott, Gloria Frye, Jozie Frye, Kamryn, Caleb and Alex Davis; and her brother and sisters, Nelson Smith of Raleigh, Grace Glover of Asheville and Jean Lamb of Lumberton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Dawkins, son, Albert Eugene Dawkins, son-in-law, Dean Frye, brother and sisters, Albert June Smith, Jr., Louise Dawkins and Ruth Adcock. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Staff of Pruitt Healthcare, especially that staff of Azalea Hall for the loving care they gave to Willie while she was a resident there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McDonald Baptist Church, Youth Ministry, 259 McDonald Church Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379 or to Gideons International.
